This is a painting of our button blankets used in our traditional ceremonies. It is by the image on the blanket that tells the story of which family and community you are from. This design is of a Thunderbird; I chose this design to honor my cousin Marianne Nicholson. She has created large wooden panels of blanket replicas. I acknowledge her as a fellow artist, and I dedicate this designed to her and her continued success in all her work.
“Robes of Power”, I feel, is a fitting title for this painting. For when we wear our regalia in our ceremonies, we transform into a world of spirit, song and dance.
